Glucose peak before activity/sleep shows your highest glucose value within three hours before activity/sleep. Peak to activity/sleep shows the time span between your highest glucose (peak before activity/sleep) and the beginning of an activity.

Step test

Lactate is a biomarker that indicates how energy is used and transformed in the muscles during high intensity exercise.

It is measured with a portable test device like Lactate Scout Sport and a finger stick.

Up to a certain threshold level, commonly 4 mmol/liter of blood, the body can clear lactate from the blood and maintain oxygen supply at a pace that does not impede muscle function.

Prolonged higher intensity exercise will ultimately lead to the threshold being passed and lactate starting to accumulate, which builds an increasingly unpleasant feeling in the muscles.

A step test (or lactate threshold test) is performed to determine at what heart rate and pulse zone you can exercise without overstepping the threshold level at 4 mmol/l.

When you have pinpointed your own threshold level (i.e. your heart rate just below reaching a lactate level of 4 mmol/l), you can keep workouts just below it to improve your endurance.

This trains your body to perform more and more intense exercise without building too much lactate and your threshold will elevate. Depending on exercise routines and lifestyle choices the threshold can vary over time.
